How to Read a Peptide COA (Third-Party Testing Explained)

A Certificate of Analysis (COA) is the single most important document a research peptide supplier can provide — and also one of the most commonly misunderstood.
What a COA Actually Confirms
Identity confirmation — usually via mass spectrometry, confirming the vial actually contains the compound it claims to.
Purity percentage — typically via HPLC (High-Performance Liquid Chromatography), showing how much of the sample is the target compound versus impurities.
Batch or lot number — ties the COA to a specific production run, not the product line in general.
Testing lab and date — an independent, named lab and a recent test date add credibility.
Why 'Batch-Specific' Matters
A COA that isn't tied to a specific batch number is far less useful — it may have been generated once and reused indefinitely, regardless of whether later batches were actually retested. Reputable suppliers test each batch independently and make that batch's specific COA available. Red Flags to Watch For
No COA available on request.
A COA with no batch number, testing lab name, or date.
Purity claims with no supporting chromatography data.
A generic 'lab tested' claim with nothing to actually verify it.
