What Lyophilization Actually Is
Lyophilization is freeze-drying — removing water from a solution under vacuum at low temperature, leaving behind a stable, dry powder. It's a standard preservation method across pharmaceutical and research compounds, not specific to peptides.
Why It's the Standard for Research Peptides
Stability — lyophilized powder is significantly more stable in storage and transit than a liquid solution.
Shelf life — a properly stored lyophilized peptide can remain stable for a long period; a reconstituted (liquid) peptide has a much shorter usable window.
Shipping — powders tolerate temperature fluctuations during transit far better than liquids.
Why Liquid Peptides Are Less Common
Pre-mixed liquid peptides exist, but they're the exception rather than the rule — because once a peptide is in solution, degradation begins, and the compound's usable window shrinks considerably. That's the entire reason reconstitution is done immediately before use rather than pre-mixed at the point of manufacture.
