Peptide Storage & Handling for Laboratory Research

Aug 10
1 min read

Proper storage and handling directly affects the reliability of any research peptide — poor handling can degrade a compound before it's even used.

Before Reconstitution

Lyophilized (freeze-dried) peptides are generally stable at refrigerated or frozen temperatures, protected from light and moisture, for extended periods. The powder form is significantly more stable than the reconstituted liquid form.

After Reconstitution

  • Reconstituted peptides should generally be refrigerated, not left at room temperature.

  • Most reconstituted peptides have a limited usable window before stability declines.

  • Repeated freeze-thaw cycles are one of the most common causes of premature degradation and should be avoided.

  • Label vials with reconstitution date to track usable window.

General Lab Practice

Sterile technique during reconstitution — using bacteriostatic water and clean handling — reduces contamination risk and supports more reliable, reproducible research results.
